GZU Delegation Visited Southern University , USA

 

During Oct. 29—Nov. 3, 2010, a GZU delegation of 5, headed by Ms. Long Chaoyun, member of Standing Committee of Guizhou Provincial Committee of CPC and Secretary of GZU Party Branch, paid a visit to Stanford University, Southern University, G2 Club and Baton Rouge , Louisiana , with aims of promoting GZU international cooperation and exchanges.

 

During the visit to Baton Rouge , Ms. Long Chaoyun was appointed Honorary Mayor of Baton Rouge City and Honorary Chairperson of Baton Rouge Shire by Mr. Melvin L “Kip” Holde, Mayor of Baton Rouge City and Chairman of Baton Rouge Shire. He also named Nov. 1, 2010 “Long Chaoyun Day” to thank her for her contribution to the cooperation between GZU and Baton Rouge City , and Southern University.

 

Stanford University and GZU delegation had a sincere and in-depth discussion and reached an agreement on the feasibility and cooperation mode of intercollegiate cooperation. Both universities would start their cooperation with teachers’ exchanges on academic and research programs, in which Professors are invited to give lectures at the counterpart universities.

 

At Southern University, a discussion brought about intent of cooperation on the exchange of teachers and students, scientific research, academic exchange. Both universities signed Memorandum on Cooperation and Exchanges between GZU and Southern University and the A & B College , as well as Memorandum on Joint Program for Students between GZU and Southern University.

 

According to these Memoranda, both universities will make joint efforts in their cooperation in the following fields: biological mobile post-doctoral research center funded by Ministry of Science and Technology, PRC; the joint research program funded by Ministry of Agriculture, USA; as well as the Southern University Training Center at GZU which provides training for both Chinese and American students who will study at the counterparts. The collaboration also includes a joint “2+2” degree program for 150 GZU students to SU each year, in which students have 2 year study at GZU and another 2 at SU, credits being recognized by both sides. Those qualified for the terms of degree study will be conferred the corresponding degrees offered by both universities. From 2011 on, GZU will provide full "Confucius Institute Scholarship" to two SU students annually for one year of Chinese learning at GZU.
