Housing

Students are provided with accommodations in the University International Hostel. New students are required to stay in the Hostel at least for one semester. One semester later, he or she can choose off campus living.

Upon arrival, a security deposit of 500 RMB is required from each student. When the student finishes his/ her study or moving out of the Guesthouse, the deposit will be returned if the room and facilities are kept in reasonable shape by the residents. Lodging agreement needs to be signed when moving into the Hostel.

The rooms and apartments come with a shower, bathroom, refrigerator, telephone, TV set, Internet access, electric heating and fan. Public Laundry facilities are provided for student’s use.

To share a 3-person dorm room (separate bedroom, shared living room and bathroom): 500 RMB per month per student (electricity is charged separately).

To have a standard single room (with private bathroom): 600RMB per month per person (electricity is charged separately).

To have a standard single room (with private bathroom and kitchen): 800RMB per month per person (electricity is charged separately).

Dining

1)Zhongshanyuan Dining Hall: On the first floor, with a meal card you can choose whatever you want.  Meal card is available on the first floor (show your student ID).  There are two food courts where more varieties of foods are served.  One is on the second floor. You can order dishes there. 

2)Shuangxinyuan Dining Hall: It is much like Zhongshanyuan Dining Hall. Besides, a restaurant is on the third floor. You can also choose to eat off campus. Many restaurants offer various kinds of dishes, of which hot pot is the most popular among students.

Shopping

There are four supermarkets (three Students’ Supermarkets and one Yingzi Supermarket)  on campus.  You can also go to shopping at Jiayu Supermarket, Hongsheng Supermarket and Heli Supermarket in Huaxi District. Wal-Mart and Modern Capital are also available in Guiyang downtown.

Banking

China Construction Bank(CCB), Agricultural Bank of China(ABC) and Industrial and Commercial Bank of China(ICBC) have their branch offices on the campus and each provides with an ATM.  They provide diverse services.  But it is encouraged that you always go to a big Bank of China in Guiyang City, as other banks might not operate business with foreign currencies.

Medical Care

There is a school clinic on the main campus.  GZU ID is needed for treatment.  For off campus medical care, it is recommended that you go to the International Health Center of Shanghai No. 1 People’s Hospital (585 Jiu Long Road; 6324-0090 ext. 2101).  If you have oversea medical insurance, please bring there.  It is about 15 minutes by taxi.  The Center is equipped with advanced medical facilities and its doctors speak foreign languages.

Student ID

Upon completion of registration at OIR of GZU, you will receive your student ID card.  Keep you GZU ID with you all times in case you are required to show it.  In case of loss, report to OIR immediately and follow the procedures to get a replacement.

Library

The Library of Guizhou University was built in 1942. After its merging with Guizhou Agricultural College in 1997 and Guizhou Industrial University in 2004, the university's library covers more than 30,000 m2, with a total storage of volums over two million.

The library now has purchased more than 10 databases, like Agricola Plus Text, Photocopy of Periodicals from Remin University China, Wanfang Data, Full-text Database of CNKI Series, EBSCO Foreign Database, and Vip Information System. And some databases are still under construction. Besides database, full-text electronic library is also available.

If you want to borrow books there, you should applying for a Book Card.  Student ID cards are required.

Transportation

Air

The Longdongbao Airport, an international airport in Guiyang, was launched into service on May 28, 1997.Now, air routes had been opened to link up Guiyang with 32 cities including Hong KongBeijingGuangzhouShenzhenShanghaiChengduChongqing, KunmingGuilin, Xiamen, Xian, Haihou, Changsha and Wuhan.

 

Railway

Guizhou is a key area for railway construction in the country. And Guizhou takes a major position in transportation pivot in southwest China, and benefit the economic development not only in Guizhou but also in neighboring Sichuan and Yunnan provinces.

 

Highway

Now there are over 30,000 kilometers of highways in operation in Guizhou, including five national highways and 30 provincial trunk lines, which constitute a highway network with Guiyang as the center and linking up all cities and counties in the province.

 

Local Transportation

Three major horizontal roads and three vertical ones constitute the modern transportation networks of Guiyang city, with about 20 interchanges of various functions.

There are about 1600 public buses running along 108 different bus routes and about 2000 taxies in the city, covering all the city area and the three suburbs. All the buses are self service.

If you want to go to the downtown of Guiyang City, you may take the following buses, No. 201 No. 202 and No. 207.  A bus stop is just on the opposite side of the University entrance.

You may also choose to take a taxi.

Climate

Guiyang city has a pleasant moist subtropical climate with plenty of sunlight and ample rainfall. It does not have intense heat in summer or severe cold in winter. The air is fresh and humid without any sandstorm. The agreeable climate makes it a cozy city for living.

A yearly average temperature of Guiyang is about 15 C (59 F). July is the hottest month of the year with an average of 24 C (75 F) while January is the coldest one, averaging a temperature of 4.6 C (40 F). Guiyang features four distinctive seasons.
